Soup and Sweet

A Soup and Sweet was held on Sunday 27 September in Archiestown Hall to raise funds for the group. Parents, Staff and friends rallied together to serve up some lovely soups and puddings to a large crowd. A nett total of £488.26 was raised on the day and we have had the opportunity for double match funding by a contact at a local Distillery which we have gratefully accepted bringing the total to a fantastic £1464.78. A big thank you to all those who helped, made soups and puddings and to all who came to support our event and to our contact.

Archiestown 5K 2015

Archiestown 5K 2015

This year’s 5K was held on Sunday 3rd June 2015 and we had phenomenal 132 runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities taking part on the day. This is our biggest entry to date which will be a great boost to the Knockando Playgroup funds and we would like to apologise for those few who didn’t get a medal! The weather was not as kind to us as it has been but that didn’t dampened the competitors spirits.

This year’s race was won by local lad Kenny Wilson from Moray Road Runners in a new course record of 15.49. The first female was Anna MacFadyen from Forres Harriers in another course record of 19.32. The first Male JogScotland winner was Ed Rattray from Dufftown JogScotland in 22.48 and the first Female JogScotland winner was Lisa Morrison from Keith JogScotland in 23.23. These winners were given a bottle of 10yo Macallan each which were once again kindly donated by The Macallan Distillers. The first junior male was Cameron Bell in 22.09 with David Spencer from Forres Harriers being runner up in 22.42. The first female junior was Lily Carmichael from Forres Harriers in 22.17 and runner up was Zoe Oag in 22.32.

A splendid post-race buffet was provided by Playgroup Parents, friends and Staff which was well received and despite the numbers we did not run out! Our reputation for a ‘good feed’ was upheld once again.

The gross figure raised at the event to date is £1127.56 and we anticipate that the net figure will be in excess of £950 once all expenses are paid. A big thank you must go out to all those who participated, helped, donated prizes and food and to all those who gave sponsors. This event would not continue to be a success without you. We are very grateful to you and we look forward to seeing you all again next year and we will be prepared for large numbers!

The first female was Marie Third from Speyside Jogscotland in 22.23 who also scooped the prize of first female JogScotland competitior. Zoolab Visit

On Wednesday 19th March 2014 the children were visited by Sam and some of his friends from Zoolab. There was John the Giant African Snail, Buzz Lightyear the Madagascan Cockroach, Victoria the Tarantula, Sebastian the Hermit Crab, Thor the Giant Millipede, Rambo the Toad, Milky Bar the Corn Snake and Paige the Rat.

The children had a great time with the animals, some looking and most touching at least one of the creatures. Viv and Nicola weren’t quite so keen! Sam explained a little bit about each animal and between each one they pretended to be the animal they were about to meet.

Here are a few pictures but parents can find more photos in the gallery.

Summer Trip 2013

The Track

After consulting with parents and giving the children the final choice we went on the Keith & Dufftown Railway, Choo, Choo!

We met at Dufftown Railway Station and headed off on the Train to Keith at 0930 hours.

The children all enjoyed the journey and were given a booklet from the railway staff so they could see where they were going and what to look out for.  We saw cows, sheep, dogs, chickens and donkeys!

The train stopped to throw some carrots to the donkeys to the delight of all the passengers!

The children were invited to go up to see the driver and they all blew the horn for which they received a card so they could show their families how clever they had been.  Some of the boys and girls also got to wear the drivers hat!

We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff on the train as they were very kind and helpful making sure we didn’t miss anything on our trip.

We arrived at the Keith station and headed off to the park where the children, parents and staff all had a ball.  Lunch was provided for us at The Ugie House Hotel where the food was delicious and the staff very attentive.  Many thanks to them too.

We then headed back to the train station to head back to Dufftown.  We stopped to see the donkeys again, blew the horn some more and looked out for all the animals again.  We arrived back in Dufftown tired but very happy.

Thank you Viv and Nic for a fab day out.
